a friend of mine recently formatted and installed win2000. she had it up and running, then it said she had to install service pack 3.

her computer now goes to a blue screen that says : session 5 initialization failed.

she tries to go into safe mode, but pc freezes at windows startup screen.

any sugestions would be greatly appreciated.

Boot from the Windows install CD and reinstall the OS. Sounds like something munged itself with the service pack install.

she's tried installing the cd and then that blue screen comes up.

if she tries to boot from 98 floppy it says something about fat32

She needs to boot from it, not install from it. Her drive is probably formated as NTFS and the floppy is looking for Fat32 (or the other way around...I can't remember)

Turn off the PC. Put the CD in the drive. It should boot to the CD instead of the drive and she can work from there.

She's somehow messed up the boot sector on her drive, so she can't boot.
